afternoon all...
it is a gorgeous...totally gorgeous afternoon here in the english countryside...
we have just been blessed with spring weather...
the village has an extra swing in it's step this week...
the garden furniture we lugged back from france is back in the garden...
& i am back in ballet flats after months in boots!

i have finished my union jack flag made with great love from vintage & french fabric scraps...
& that lace {see here}...
i am a particularly *fussy..cut all the threads as you go* kinda sewer...
but for this i wanted threads...& raw edges...
i want the fabrics to continue to fray...
i want this flag to look like it's been very roughly sewn together...
i want it to look like i hauled the flag outa the attic for the day...

this will no doubt be hung at home in australia one day...
another reminder of our time aboad...
between now & then i will be hanging it for the girls birthdays next month...
& our Royal wedding garden bbq...
it will be a constant over the summer in our garden i'm sure...

there's nothing to creating this piece...
ours measures 40 x 34 inches...
the navy suede i had left over from covering some cushions for a friend...
the french linen was in my scrap bag...
i just roughly cut it all the same width & added pieces in as i needed to along the length of the flag...
as i said i'm hoping they all fray & the flag becomes a little more *vintaged* over the summer...
the gorgeous lace...absolutely the icing on the cake...was gifted to me by a generous gal in the village...

so if you have a scrap bag of bits...
& a little time to make a spring english-inspired bit of lovely flag-ing...
i totally recommend it...
i just couldn't come at the nylon pieces on ebay...
nor could i justify the price of a true collectors piece...
i actually didn't want a traditional red, white & blue centre piece...
i wanted something a little more muted, but something that was very obviously the union jack...
perfect!

i also sewed up a lovely little quick piece of doilie bunting...
i've seen this around & it is so effective & lovely without much effort...
the largest sized doilies i could find...folded in half & machine sewn along a ball of garden string...
so simple & so gorgeous...
i've made metres of the stuff...!

bring on the spring sunshine...
bring on the girls birthdays...
bring on our Royal wedding garden party...
we've got our flag...
happy weekend all....
