Newborns see everything in black and white while reds and yellows are the first actual colours they can perceive. You might want to avoid red and yellows, as they will kind of jump out at your baby from a what they see as a colourless room. Instead, use pastels, blues and violets in your nursery decorating attempts.<br /><br />Decorating Walls Budget Style:<br />Are you looking for some economical options for wall art? For a few pounds, you can frame pages from your favourite childhood books. This is a simple and cost effective way to add colour, decoration and a bit of nostalgia as well. Baby blankets and quilts your child has outgrown are potential wall decorations as well. As your child grows you can use this same principle with album art and film posters.<br /><br />Window Treatments:<br /><a href="http://www.terrysfabrics.co.uk/cat/ready-made-curtains/childrens-curtains/nursery-curtains/">Childrens curtains with blackout lining</a> will help your baby sleep during daylight hours. There are a whole host of plain or patterned children's curtain fabrics online in a wide variety of gorgeous colours to compliment your nursery furnishings and colour scheme.<br /><br />Decorating the nursery is an exciting endeavour for first time as well as repeat parents. There are all kinds of themes you can use from simple gender specific colour coordination to licensed character décor such as Strawberry Shortcake, Sponge Bob Square Pants and Toy Story or Shrek. Decorating Children's Bedrooms

It's fine when they are toddlers because you can use the alphabet, animals, circus tents just about any theme and they will be happy!<br /><br />However, reaching those in between years when they are no longer little and yet not reached their teenage years can be a real problem. I love the design concept of this boy's bedroom, especially the baseballs used on top of the bed posts which add a really individual touch.<br /><br />Including names of the children who occupy the room has always baffled me! Is this to remind them who they are and which bed they are supposed to sleep in or it a psychological symbol indicating their own individual space?<br /><br />With that dilemma put aside, I do believe it is important to let children have a say in the colour scheme and style of their room, as they are far more likely to want to spend time there in a space of their own as well as sleeping of course!<br /><br />Having personal touches is another great way to let them express their individuality, home-made quilts and <a href="http://www.terrysfabrics.co.uk/cat/bedding/bedspreads/">bedspreads</a> may not be to everyone's liking but they are a great way of showing how much you care, and until they reach the rebellious stage I say 'go for it' in a big way!<br /><br />Once they reach the age, when it's pointless trying to help them make choices, they can have their own space decorated and kept in whatever disarray they want! If they want black walls and ceilings then agree enthusiastically, you may be surprised to find that if you whole heartedly agree with anything they will want something different! <a href="http://freshome.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/kids-room-theme.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://freshome.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/kids-room-theme.jpg" style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 490px; height: 383px;" /></a><br />Decorating bedrooms for young children can be a time when you can bring back your own childhood memories for all the things you loved!<br /><br />You should be careful that your choice is the same as your child’s otherwise you may love the room and they may well detest and seeing as it’s there space their ideas should take precedent!<br /><br />Painting large murals on walls offers a truly wonderful appearance, but for those who are not artistic it may be wise to get friends who are excellent at drawing to sketch out the design and you to do the painting!<br /><br />Alternatively you can still use a specific theme but rather than have an entire wall or walls painted generate the theme with the use of <a href="http://www.terrysfabrics.co.uk/cat/curtain-fabrics/childrens-fabrics/">childrens curtains</a> which have a zoo theme for example. <br /><br />Borders are somewhat out dated, however for the relatively short time they will be in place-as your child matures a zoo style theme will need replacing with something far more suitable for a teenager- they are a cost effective method of decorating without having to painting murals!<br /><br />Matching bedding and some great child orientated wall art are great ways to bring the theme together.
